  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons diced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning blend
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 2 (14 oz) cans crushed tomatoes
  • 2 (15 oz) cans red kidney beans (drained)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sliced jalapenos

Instructions

  1. Heat canola oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat. Sauté diced onion for about 3-5 minutes until soft, then add garlic and ground beef; cook until browned.
  2. Stir in the Italian seasoning blend, chili powder, smoked paprika, ground cumin, brown sugar, vinegar, crushed tomatoes, kidney beans, salt, pepper, and jalapenos.
  3. Simmer on low for about 10 minutes. Add masa harina to thicken the chili and cook for another 10 minutes.
  4. Serve hot with your choice of toppings such as sour cream or shredded cheese.
