  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley or 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, onion powder (if using), salt, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese gently.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg until blended.
