Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 8 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives (chopped)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large round loaf of crusty bread (like sourdough)
  • Optional: 1 cup shredded mozzarella or parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix softened butter with minced garlic, parsley, chives, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  3. Make diagonal cuts in the bread without cutting all the way through to create a crosshatch pattern.
  4. Generously spread the garlic butter mixture in between the cuts of the bread.
  5. If using cheese, sprinkle it between the cuts as well.
  6. Wrap the loaf in aluminum foil (leaving the top slightly open) and place it on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes, then unwrap and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm.
