  • 1 lb smoked sausage (sliced)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup uncooked long-grain white rice
  • 2 1/4 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce (sweet and tangy)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat olive oil and brown the sliced sausage for about 2–3 minutes on each side.
  2. Reduce heat to medium, add rinsed rice, and toast for 1–2 minutes, stirring frequently.
  3. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika (if using), salt, and pepper.
  4. Pour in chicken broth, BBQ sauce, and soy sauce; mix well.
  5. Add the browned sausage back into the pan and nestle it into the rice mixture.
  6. Bring to a light simmer; cover and reduce heat to low. Cook for about 18–20 minutes until the rice is tender.
  7. Let it rest covered for about 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
