  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 6 oz almond paste
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, beaten (divided)
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. In a bowl, mix almond paste, softened butter, granulated sugar, and half of the beaten egg until smooth.
  5. Spread the filling down the center third of the pastry.
  6. Cut diagonal strips on both sides of the pastry and fold them over the filling like braiding hair.
  7. Brush the top with the remaining egg and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
