  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until combined. Form into golf ball-sized meatballs.
  2. Sauté sliced onions in olive oil and butter over medium heat until caramelized (15-20 minutes).
  3. Add sugar and flour to the onions; then pour in beef broth and stir in Worcestershire sauce. Simmer while cooking meatballs.
  4. Brown meatballs in a skillet on all sides; then pour the onion sauce over them and bring to a boil.
  5. Top with shredded cheese and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes until bubbly.
