Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 small Granny Smith apples
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 1 (9 inch) double-crust pie pastry

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Peel, core, and slice the apples thinly.
  2. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat; add flour and cook until fragrant. Stir in sugars and water, bringing to a boil before simmering for 3-5 minutes.
  3. Press one pastry into the bottom of a 9-inch pie pan and roll out the second to create strips for the lattice.
  4. Layer sliced apples in the bottom crust, then arrange lattice strips on top.
  5. Pour the butter mixture over the lattice crust without spilling over the edges.
  6. Bake at 425 degrees F for 15 minutes, then lower temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake for an additional 35-45 minutes until apples are soft.
  7. Cool slightly before serving warm.
